TURNING THE TIDE
The greatest challenge right now for newspaper publishers across the UK is that, although hundreds of thousands of people still read local papers, they are buying copies less often and sales are declining.
Increasingly busy lifestyles and easy availability of information are among the causes but these are simply facts, not excuses.
At the Leicester Mercury, we are committed to providing our communities with a first class news, information and entertainment service for many years to come...and we want our flagship daily newspaper to remain at the forefront of this.
We are currently looking to put together an industry-leading newspaper sales and marketing structure and team with the vision, ideas, energy and sales skills to tackle the issue of declining sales volumes head on and help us turn the tide.
We are looking to learn from and apply best practice from other sectors, so even if you have no direct experience of working in newspapers, we could still very much be on the same page!
HEAD OF NEWSPAPER SALES DEVELOPMENT
The successful candidate will be a key member of the Leicester Mercury senior management team and will be responsible for developing and delivering a new strategy for selling newspapers through both a hands on approach and strong leadership of the departmental management team. Additionally they will be accountable for delivering volume, revenue and cost budget targets.
SALES MANAGER - NEWSPAPERS
This role will focus on the day to day running of the sales teams and management of key customer relationships with the focus on activities that will drive copy sales and encourage greater purchase frequency. Additionally, there will be a requirement to develop new and innovative sales channels and outlets. The successful candidate will also deputise for the Head of Newspaper Sales Development.
SALES PROMOTIONS MANAGER
Our new Promotions person will be responsible for approaching clients and suppliers with creative propositions for activity that will generate additional sales of the newspaper and provide great added value content. Additionally they will help to develop the Mercury marketing plan, manage all internal and external advertising and promotion of the title and work on new ways of securing readers including database marketing initiatives.
For the right candidates we will offer great packages, prospects and a really fun and exciting environment to work in.
So, if you have some or all of the above attributes and you share our passion for making a real difference we want to “Read all about you”.
Send us a one page introductory letter telling us which role you are applying for and explaining how you would tackle our sales challenge along with your CV and current remuneration package.
