2012 Newspaper Awards – winners announced

i took the coveted Newspaper of the Year at The 2012 Newspaper Awards, the only awards that celebrate excellence in news media production.

2012 Newspaper Awards – winners announced

Judges described it as “a great sales story for the industry with i on track to secure its long-term place in the quality newspaper market. A production for the 21st century.”

The 2012 Newspaper Awards were hosted by Gabby Logan, one of Britain's leading sports presenters and a former international gymnast, at the London Hilton on Park Lane in front of over 500 guests.

The Grand Prix, for the newspaper that accumulated the most judges points in any one category, went to The Irish News which was praised for “its consistent quality and has a national newspaper feel to it. A newspaper that screams quality – a great read and a great buy.” The Irish News was also the winner of The Regional Newspaper of the Year (over 25,000) category storming to the win with 11 judges according it big marks.

Printer of the Year was won by the Guardian Print Centre for its printing of The Guardian and The Observer.

There were record entries for the digital categories in 2012. Digital News Service of the Year went to thesundaytimes.co.uk while the Daily Telegraph took Digital Innovation of the Year for its interactive supplement which the judges praised for linking traditional print with digital media.
