Mag+ has announced the availability of the latest iteration of its digital publishing platform.

Mag+ says: Enhancements make it easier for creatives and publishers to develop digital content intended for a growing range of mobile devices without the need for numerous device-specific design iterations. Support for analytics has also been improved, making it easy for publishers to access industry-standard metrics using their choice of analytics providers.
The most significant new feature allows designers to automatically translate their creations from one device to another. With a push of a button, the content will be copied to a new InDesign template and reconfigured based on pre-determined, user-defined settings. This gives them the ability to tweak that content, to ensure an optimum user experience for the device, without starting from scratch. When the first design is complete, it can be exported simultaneously to any of the other Mag+-supported platforms, which include both flavors of iPad, plus iPhone, Kindle Fire and the two most common Android tablet sizes (1024x600 and 1280x800). The plug-in will auto-populate the new template with all content, adjusted for the size and aspect ratio of that new device. Best of all, the new feature will work on all major versions of Adobe InDesign, including CS4, CS5, CS5.5 and CS6.

Yesterday, the British Journal of Photography (BJP), published by Incisive Media, and Sweden’s Icon magazine, became the first digital publications created with the Mag+ platform to be available on the iPhone.
The British Journal of Photography: iPhone Edition is a completely new experience designed for the unique requirements of a smartphone. Each page is custom-made to suit the handheld reading experience, with no need to zoom in and out for legible text. With smaller, more frequent updates, new issues can be downloaded even when away from a WiFi internet connection, and the app includes continuously updated photography newsfeed.
The first issue profiles American photographer Roger Ballen and his photographs and videos.
The BJP iPhone Edition launches today with free issues for a limited time. From the autumn, weekly issues will be available for £0.69, with discounted monthly subscriptions. It is available from the Apple App Store.
Documentary and lifestyle magazine Icon has also launched its Icon iPhone App, offering high-quality in-depth articles on style, music, travel, food, art, beauty and events in a bespoke, digital reading experience. Each issue of the ICON iPhone app features over 20 pages and a feature-length interview.
Multiple issues of the app, available in Swedish and International/English versions, are already proving popular in the App Store, where they are available now, free of charge.
Additional titles will debut in the coming weeks and months and commercial release of the iPhone support is expected this autumn.
