Hearst finances two CSVPA scholarships

Karin Askham (centre): "We are delighted to be working so closely with such a major industry partner in Hearst UK."

The scholarships are a bid to make education in the fashion and creative industries more accessible and diverse.

Drawing on the brands, Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan, scholarships will be available for two established CSVPA courses:

• Harper’s Bazaar Scholarship to the BA (Hons) Fashion Branding & Communication course, available to applicants over the age of 18 who hope to build valuable experience and knowledge of the fashion industry

• Cosmopolitan Scholarship to the Film/Digital Media Extended Diploma, available to 16-18 year-olds who are interested in developing a career in digital, film and animation

The courses are specifically designed to create a pipeline of students with the necessary skills to enter the creative industries. The curriculums will be heavily infused with practical skills and contact with Hearst experts and other experienced industry figures such as Holly Fulton, Head of Fashion at CSVPA and an established fashion designer. As part of these scholarships, each student will also be offered the opportunity to undertake work experience or an internship at Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan.

The scholarships are designed to create new opportunities for talented individuals who may have previously found the courses inaccessible due to economic circumstance, says Hearst.

This initiative is an extension of Hearst’s existing partnership with CSVPA, which started in 2016 with the launch of an MA in Art & Design.

Judith Secombe, Managing Director, Hearst Brand Services, says: “Hearst hugely values diversity and wants to create new opportunities to develop up-and-coming talent. Our latest partnership with the CSVPA is a positive step in making creative industries more accessible, through providing access to fully-funded quality education.”

Karin Askham, Rector, CSVPA, says: “We are delighted to be working so closely with such a major industry partner in Hearst UK. At a time when opportunities in arts and design education are under severe pressure, it is vital that we keep routes open for people from all backgrounds. We know their talent will drive more success for the UK’s strategically important creative industries and open up fulfilling careers to those with the talent and ambition, regardless of circumstances.”

Holly Fulton, Head of Fashion, CSVPA, says: “Collaboration is central to my practice as a designer, and to the values that underpin the BA Fashion course at CSVPA. It makes perfect sense to demonstrate that approach in our industry partnerships, and these affiliated scholarships with Hearst UK are a great example.”
