Allegra Stratton joins Bloomberg News

Bloomberg News has announced the appointment of Allegra Stratton as UK Contributing Editor.

Allegra Stratton joins Bloomberg News
Allegra Stratton: “I am delighted to be making a return to journalism with Bloomberg, especially at a time when the company is making a serious investment in UK-focused, high-quality news.”

As part of her role, Stratton will write Bloomberg UK’s daily newsletter The Readout, providing expert analysis of the day’s biggest stories targeted to a British audience. The newsletter will feature the best of Bloomberg – including the latest business and politics news as well as in-depth reporting from Bloomberg’s journalists in Britain and around the world. It launches on Monday, 20 June and will hit inboxes every weekday by 5 p.m. London time. (You can sign up here.)

Stratton spent nearly two decades as a journalist, having served as Political Editor for BBC’s Newsnight and National Editor at ITV News, among other roles. In May 2020, she entered UK government, where she held the positions of Head of Strategic Communications at the Treasury, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, and government spokesperson for the UN Climate Change Summit COP26.

Stratton’s appointment follows last month’s launch of Bloomberg UK, a new editorial brand dedicated to business and financial news for British audiences. The initiative builds on the company’s investment and commitment in the UK by creating distinct content for the local audience, hiring new editorial talent, and debuting original news products across multiple platforms, says the company. Bloomberg’s London newsroom has more than 500 journalists and analysts – one of the largest in Europe.

“I am delighted to be making a return to journalism with Bloomberg, especially at a time when the company is making a serious investment in UK-focused, high-quality news. I’ve long respected its clear eyed, hard headed approach to the challenge posed by climate change – journalism that gets more critical by the day,” said Stratton. “With the newsletter, we hope to give readers a reasoned take on the news agenda. Having worked in both journalism and government, I hope to be able to show readers what really matters—and what doesn’t. And of course, the Readout newsletter will bring you the best insights, analysis and scoops from the whole Bloomberg reporting team.”

“I’m thrilled to welcome Allegra to Bloomberg at such a pivotal moment for us in Britain,” said Bloomberg Senior Executive Editor for Europe, Middle East and Africa, David Merritt, who drove the newsroom’s efforts for Bloomberg UK. “Newsletters are an important way to connect with an audience and with Allegra’s insights in our new daily Readout, Bloomberg UK readers are in for a treat.”

Bloomberg News Senior Editor Adam Blenford is the launch editor of The Readout. Readers can sign up for the newsletter for free. More than 100,000 readers in the UK subscribe to at least one of Bloomberg’s newsletters, says Bloomberg.
