Ben Hardy: “I am very much looking forward to moving to York and getting started.”

Newsquest, a UK local media group, has announced the appointment of Ben Hardy as editor of The Press and Gazette & Herald based in York.

Ben is currently with Newsquest daily the Oxford Mail as the title’s audience & content editor, and he will relocate to York in June.

In his time at Oxford, Ben has played an instrumental role in helping the team achieve record audience figures, added Newsquest.

The Press, which the publisher says reaches over 75% of people living in and around York, will be Ben’s first editorship, and he is excited to be leading the team.

Ben said: “The Press has a reputation for excellent journalism and a long history of championing the city and its communities. I am very much looking forward to moving to York and getting started.”

Commenting on Ben’s appointment, Gavin Foster, group editor Yorkshire & North East, said: “I am delighted that Ben has agreed to lead our team in York. He really impressed us at interview with his ideas and enthusiasm for the role. He’s done an excellent job in Oxford, and I know that the team there will be sorry to see him leave.”

In his new role, Newsquest says Ben will lead a team of journalists overseeing the further development and growth of some of the region’s most popular titles including The Press and Gazette & Herald.
