The Telegraph launches Missing Debbie podcast

The Telegraph has announced the Bed of Lies team returns for their fourth series, Missing Debbie, fronted by investigative reporter Cara McGoogan, who joins Debbie Cooper’s sisters, Beth and Nicola, to tell her story for the first time. This six-part series released on Tuesdays and Fridays re-examines police archives, digital footprints, and long-buried clues.

What unfolds is an extraordinary tale of coercive control, stolen identity, and an elaborate deception stretching across the globe, says the publisher.

In 2010, 41-year-old Debbie Cooper married Jamie Starbuck after a whirlwind romance. Days later, the newlyweds told their friends and family they were setting off on a round-the-world honeymoon.

Emails reassured Debbie’s family back home that she was happily exploring Europe, Asia, and the Americas. But as months turned into years, disturbing discrepancies began to surface—no phone calls, no photos, and a shift in tone that left her loved ones uneasy, added the publisher.

The Telegraph’s Bed of Lies has won multiple industry awards, including the 2022 Press Award for News Podcast of The Year, the 2021 British Journalism Award for Features Journalism, the 2022 Society of Editors Media Freedom Award for Podcast of the Year, and three Publisher Podcast Awards.
