Professor Michelle Bell: “The first papers published in Environmental Research: Health today demonstrate the promise of this new journal.”

The journal represents one of three new interdisciplinary titles that have launched this year, extending IOPP’s Environmental Research series to six OA journals that collectively address all major areas of environmental science, say the publishers.

The first issue features impactful research, including papers on:

  • The association between short-term exposure to air pollution and mental disorders
  • The relationship between indoor and outdoor particulate air quality during wildfire smoke events in western US cities
  • The effects of warm-season temperatures on emergency department visits among children
  • What explains spatial variations of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy: A social-ecological-technological systems approach
  • Environmental justice and industrial farming in Iowa, USA

The launch of Environmental Research: Health makes knowledge that supports sustainable solutions for healthier people and a better world available to all. In support of the community and the journal’s first authors, the open access Article Publication Charges (APCs) are being covered by IOPP for all articles submitted through to the end of 2023. Full-length research papers, without word restriction will be published, alongside other content including authoritative reviews, perspectives and opinion pieces.

According to the IOP, IOPP’s Environmental Research series combines outstanding levels of author service, inclusive editorial policies, strict quality assurance and has open science principles at its core. In the spirit of transparency and reproducibility, authors publishing in the journal are encouraged to share data and code where appropriate for the benefit of the research community. Authors also have the option to submit their papers for double anonymous and transparent peer review.

The Environmental Research: Health Editor-in-Chief, Professor Michelle Bell from Yale University, USA says: “The first papers published in Environmental Research: Health today demonstrate the promise of this new journal. It brings together impactful environmental health research which plays a critical role in supporting businesses, keeping communities safe, and protecting the environment.”

Dr Tim Smith, Head of Portfolio Development at IOPP says: “The launch of Environmental Research: Health further enhances the role IOP Publishing will play in serving environmental science as a multidisciplinary field of great global importance. Bringing together high quality independently-verified research that informs academia, industry and policy makers is now more important than ever and we look forward to meeting the needs of the community through a combination of outstanding publishing services and content for researchers worldwide.”
