Bloomberg last week announced the completion of its acquisition of Canoe Intelligence (“Canoe”), an AI-powered data management and intelligence platform for automating private markets data collection and delivery. Bloomberg says the successful transaction marks the next step in its strategy to transform how institutional investors engage with private markets — accelerating Bloomberg’s ability to deliver unified data, analytics, and tools to power end-to-end workflows across public and private markets.
As private markets become a larger part of institutional portfolios, investors increasingly need to evaluate public and private opportunities together and understand how each contributes to portfolio outcomes. Canoe acts as a translation layer for unstructured private markets information, automating the collection and validation of data and delivering it in a structured, portfolio-ready format into downstream systems such as Bloomberg PORT Enterprise. Joint clients can immediately benefit from this existing integration, says Bloomberg, with permissioned and validated private fund data from Canoe flowing directly into PORT Enterprise to support a Total Portfolio View across public and private assets and streamline post-investment workflows.
With Canoe now part of Bloomberg, clients will continue to receive the service they experience today, backed by increased investment in Canoe’s technology platform, the company continued. Combining Canoe’s expertise in sourcing, structuring, and validating permissioned private fund data with Bloomberg’s data management expertise, technology, and scale will expand value across the full investment lifecycle for both private and public markets, including:
- Advancing Canoe’s Core Offering: Expanding Canoe’s capabilities and global reach while investing in technology and data management to deliver more timely, accurate, and complete private markets data, giving investors greater clarity and confidence across their portfolios.
- Fully Integrated Total Portfolio View: Deeper, automated, and more timely post-investment workflow for exposure & risk analysis, cash management, and underlying holdings look-through, all underpinned by an integrated Investment Book of Record across public and private assets.
- Enhanced Pre-Investment Intelligence: Extending fund discovery, screening, benchmarking, and comparative analysis across private markets, helping investors move from identifying opportunities to deeper analysis.
- Converged Data Infrastructure: Broader fund coverage and more timely performance data normalized with consistent fund identifiers such as the Financial Instrument Global Identifier (FIGI), creating the foundational data architecture to support more seamless analysis and workflows across public and private markets.
- AI-Powered Intelligence: Bringing these capabilities together in a permissioned environment within ASKB, Bloomberg’s agentic AI conversational interface, to help investors accelerate discovery, streamline analysis, and generate insights across public and private markets with greater speed and confidence.
Vlad Kliatchko, CEO of Bloomberg said: “We’re excited to welcome the Canoe team to Bloomberg. Our private markets capabilities have grown significantly in recent years, and the addition of Canoe’s data, technology, and expertise meaningfully advances our efforts to become a leader in this space. Together, we can deliver a seamless investment experience across public and private markets, with connected data, end-to-end workflows, and AI tools that will help clients make smarter, faster decisions.”
Jason Eiswerth, CEO of Canoe Intelligence, now part of Bloomberg: “Canoe was built to solve one of private markets’ most persistent challenges: turning fragmented, complex data into information investors can actually use. As private markets have grown, that challenge has only become more important. Joining Bloomberg gives us the scale, technology and market expertise to build on what Canoe has created and deliver even more value to clients. We’re excited to keep investing in our solutions while bringing private markets closer to the real-time, portfolio-level intelligence investors expect across the rest of their portfolios.”
