Frankie Gabbani-Stokeld: “With the cost of preparing children for the new school year continuing to place pressure on household budgets, the Back to School Grant aims to ease some of the financial burden faced by families across the newstrade.”

NewstrAid is offering grants of up to £500 per school-age child to help cover the increasing cost of essential back-to-school items, including uniforms, stationery, books, school equipment, kits and IT devices.

Applications opened on 20 July and close on 28 August 2026, giving families the opportunity to apply during the summer holiday period.

The grant is available to people who currently work, or have previously worked, in newspaper and magazine sales, circulation or distribution for a minimum of two years. Applicants must also meet a number of financial and eligibility criteria, including receipt of qualifying state benefits, added the charity.

Frankie Gabbani-Stokeld, acting welfare manager for NewstrAid, said: “With the cost of preparing children for the new school year continuing to place pressure on household budgets, the Back to School Grant aims to ease some of the financial burden faced by families across the newstrade.”

Applicants will be required to complete an application form and provide supporting documentation, including proof of their newstrade connection and evidence of benefits entitlement.
