Hosted and created by Claire Gill, journalist at My Weekly, each episode invites a popular author to read from their latest book, answer readers’ questions, and recommend the books that they’ve loved.
Authors such as Ann Cleeves – whose book is currently airing as The Long Call on ITV – Sophie Kinsella, Dr. Hilary Jones and Dorothy Koomson are set to feature on the show’s first season.
My Weekly’s team will announce upcoming guests on their social media pages, encouraging readers and listeners to contribute questions ahead of recording.
Stuart Johnstone, Editor of My Weekly, said: “My Weekly will always be the magazine we all love, but we recognise that there are so many ways to connect with people these days.
“The launch of our Magical Flying Bookshop podcast will entice new readers into the brand and give our current loyal readership some fabulous free content around the wonderful world of fiction. I can’t wait to see it take off.”
Claire Gill, host of My Weekly’s Magical Flying Bookshop, added: “Our research showed that our readers were starting to listen to podcasts, coupled with the fantastic response we had from our live event with author Adele Parks, a gem of an idea started to form in my mind – a podcast.
“It needed to be atmospheric, keeping in with My Weekly’s brand, and ultimately something for the readers: time for themselves”
The first season is sponsored by footwear brand Pavers, who collaborated on the delivery and script of its featured advertisements.
Christopher Phin, DC Thomson Media’s Head of Podcasts, said: “It’s a joy to be able to help extend this wonderful brand in new ways – keeping it close and relevant for folks wherever they find themselves in the world! And how great to find a commercial partner in Pavers who understands the power and potential of podcasts: that close, intimate relationship that delivers even at modest scale.”
My Weekly’s Magical Flying Bookshop launched November 4th and will be available to listen to on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts or wherever you find your podcasts.
