Bauer Media and the Bauer Academy have chosen to work with DMU to deliver the Senior Leaders Master’s Degree which will train future media bosses to develop high performing teams across the creative sector.
Professor Jason Lee, Director of Strategic Partnerships for DMU’s Leicester Media School (LMS), said the partnership has been formed after the two institutions recognised there was a gap in the market for higher level degrees that train senior leaders in the creative industries.
The Bauer Media MSc is on offer in 2019/20 specifically for Bauer employees but will be available to people working in other organisations from 2020/21. Companies can fund the programme through their Apprenticeship Levy, providing an opportunity to upskill existing employees.
Bauer Media boasts a multi-platform portfolio in the UK, including KISS, Absolute Radio, Empire, Magic, Grazia, Scala Radio, Greatest Hits Radio, Gem Radio and Free Radio.
Professor Lee said: “This brand-new partnership with Bauer is part of our central strategy to partner with global institutions to provide the best in educational and work opportunities for students at all levels.
“We are proud of this new partnership with Bauer Media, the UK’s biggest magazine publisher and Europe’s leading digital radio and audio business.
“Bauer Media Group employs more than 11,000 people across the globe and we all are engaged with Bauer Media, from broadcast radio to print publications in the UK.
“As well as new academic programmes, which focus on real work experience, this partnership with Bauer Media is beneficial to both DMU staff and students who want to work more closely with the media industry. This partnership helps give DMU students the edge.”
Bauer Academy Director, Courtnay McLeod, explained: “The Bauer Academy was launched to reimagine what education should look like for both learners and employers. The Bauer Media Senior Leader MSc is an excellent example of this.
“With modules on creativity, innovation, and cultivating high performing teams, it is exactly what’s required in today’s world.
“The Bauer Media MSc is just one element of our partnership with De Montfort. The university is clearly committed to delivering excellence, with a global and enterprising outlook which makes it an ideal partner. We will continue to work closely with DMU, in particular the Leicester Media School, to develop new opportunities for learners and innovate education.”
The Leicester Media School (LMS) was launched in November 2015. Covering a broad range of media subjects, from Journalism, Film, Game Art, VFX, Graphic Design, Game Art, Broadcast Media, Communication Arts, Media Production, and Media and Communications.
Dr James Russell, the current head of LMS said: “Having such a high-profile partner as Bauer Media working with us is great for our media students entering into a highly competitive workplace.
“This is about taking DMU's media school to the next level and, with Bauer Media being such a significant media player, this is hugely beneficial to the university.”
