Metro has been named as the official media partner of the Shine School Media Awards.

Metro backs Shine School Awards
Richard Chapman: “Every year, secondary school students from across the UK enter the Shine School Media Awards hoping to be the journalists and podcasters of tomorrow.”

Metro says the partnership will promote the Shine School Media Awards across all its platforms and highlight the achievements of the next generation of writers, editors, film-makers, photographers and designers.

The Shine School Media Awards is a free national competition rewarding UK secondary schools who produce an outstanding newspaper, magazine or podcast.

Entries are judged by a panel of industry professionals, recognising some of the most creative, compelling and impactful student-led journalism from across the country.

The culmination of the competition is a gala awards ceremony held in the City of London each summer with student workshops and high-profile guest speakers.

Shine School Media Awards Chair, Richard Chapman said: “Every year, secondary school students from across the UK enter the Shine School Media Awards hoping to be the journalists and podcasters of tomorrow.

“We know how popular Metro is with this age group, so when we heard that its executive editor Richard Hartley-Parkinson and his team were keen to partner with Shine, we saw it as an outstanding opportunity.

“At our judging this summer, Richard will be presiding over the ‘Editor of the Year’ prize, so our students will have the chance to benefit from his immense experience and keen journalistic eye."

Metro Executive Editor, Richard Hartley-Parkinson added: “We’re incredibly proud to be partnering with the Shine School Media Awards and connecting with the next generation of journalists.

“At Metro, we pride ourselves on our creative, impactful work and it will be an honour to give a national platform to secondary schools from across the country.

“In the current news and media landscape, partnering with the awards allows us to tap into and champion the raw talent and fresh perspectives that will lead our industry into the future.”
