Newsquest Media Group, a UK local media company, has announced the appointment of Richard Porritt as editorial transformation director.

Richard will take up the role on 1 July and will work with local editorial teams across the country as they build on the journalism they deliver for their communities.

Henry Faure Walker, CEO of Newsquest, said: “I’m delighted that Richard is taking up this new role as Editorial Transformation Director, reporting to me. Despite the structural challenges that have affected the wider sector, Newsquest has built a strong and robust local news business, and our local titles now typically reach more than 75% of people in the markets they serve.

“The media landscape is going through another period of rapid change, and we’re excited about the opportunities this presents to further strengthen the great local journalism we do.”

Richard Porritt said: “Local journalism matters more than ever. I’m really looking forward to working with colleagues across Newsquest as we strive to serve our audiences even better, whilst staying true to the values of great reporting.”

Richard is currently regional editor for Newsquest Eastern Counties, as well as editor of the Eastern Daily Press.

Newsquest publishes more than 200 local media brands across the UK and says it has a monthly digital audience of over 50 million users. It publishes around 50,000 local stories each month, with many titles read — online and in print — by more than 75% of the local population.
