The 144-year-old weekly Shooting Times & Country Magazine has launched a mobile-native digital version of their magazine on the TouchTree platform. The deployment gives members immediate access to the title’s historical archive, on any mobile and desktop device, says Touch Tree.
Touch Tree Technology, a digital collaboration partner for publishers, deployed the fully branded web environment to convert the magazine’s existing print PDFs into a mobile-first digital experience.
Published weekly since 1882, Shooting Times required a solution that served a membership base with varying levels of digital fluency, added Touch Tree. The brief to Touch Tree prioritised strict accessibility criteria: a frictionless reading experience for every member regardless of technical confidence, the elimination of app downloads, and a near-zero administration requirement for the internal publishing team.
According to Touch Tree, the new digital infrastructure was built directly around these operational and audience requirements:
- One-tap browser access: Readers open the edition with a single tap on any phone, tablet, or desktop. By bypassing app stores and complex navigation, the platform removes traditional technological barriers.
- Fully searchable historical archive: Every available back issue is digitally accessible and searchable, allowing members to instantly research and retrieve specific features, subjects, and archival content.
- Zero-overhead production: The digital version is generated directly from the PDFs the team already produces for their print edition. Editorial and production workflows remain entirely unchanged.
- Automated deployment: Each weekly issue goes live in the background without manual platform monitoring, allowing the publisher to allocate full resources to content creation.
Brendon Bester, commercial director at Touch Tree Technology, commented: “Shooting Times gave us a refreshingly clear brief, which our team executed to the letter. Our Ask technology reinforces our 'Never out of print' tenet: for a title with 144 years of heritage, every available back issue is now fully searchable and simply a screen tap away. The editorial team clearly already knows how to make a great magazine; our job is to deliver it to their members' devices without adding to their workflow. The best technology is often the kind you don't have to worry about.”
