The HistoryExtra podcast goes from studio to stage

Immediate Media’s IX takes the HistoryExtra podcast from studio to stage for STUDIOCANAL’S PRESSURE.

Rob Hunt: “HistoryExtra’s audience comes for the story behind the story, so a live podcast was the right way to bring it to life.”

IX, Immediate’s in-house experiential agency, has staged HistoryExtra Live: Uncovering PRESSURE, a live podcast recording at RSA London created in collaboration with STUDIOCANAL, in what is HistoryExtra’s first live filmed podcast.

STUDIOCANAL, represented by Premier, has partnered with HistoryExtra, which the publisher says reaches more than 2 million people a month, to ensure the Home Premiere of WWII drama PRESSURE reached a passionate and engaged history audience. IX delivered the media first event including the partnership and production, and a filmed package of audience vox pops, pre and post event footage and social edits.

Guests attended the reception at RSA London on Thursday 22 October and were treated to behind-the-scenes content from PRESSURE, followed by a one-hour recording hosted by HistoryExtra’s Charlotte Vosper. She was joined by PRESSURE co-writer David Haig and Catherine Ross, Library and Archive Manager at the Met Office, to explore the making of the film and the real events of D-Day, including the story of James Stagg, whose forecast influenced the timing of the invasion. Guests included members of the public, media and 18 creators and influencers. The episode will be released on HistoryExtra’s podcast feed and YouTube channel on 30 October.

The activity extended beyond the live evening, added the publisher. Immediate’s Imagine Studio filmed the event, producing the full episode and social-first edits, amplified across HistoryExtra’s social channels reaching both core and new audiences. Other activity included promotion across historyextra.com and a paid social boost.

Launched in February 2026, IX is Immediate Media’s dedicated experiential agency, bringing brands to life and extending each activation to Immediate’s monthly audience of 20 million UK adults.

Reflecting on the event, Rob Hunt, director of experiential at Immediate said: “HistoryExtra’s audience comes for the story behind the story, so a live podcast was the right way to bring it to life. Working with Premier representing STUDIOCANAL and the HistoryExtra team, we developed the idea into an event that works in the room and well beyond it, with the conversation filmed and amplified across HistoryExtra’s channels. It’s what our ‘one team’ model is built for: taking a credible idea from concept to amplification, and crafting it so it feels relevant to the people it’s for.”

Will Fraser, senior marketing manager at STUDIOCANAL said: “PRESSURE tells the untold true-story of James Stagg and the forecast that shaped D-Day. HistoryExtra’s audience, with its appetite for the stories behind the history, was a natural one to reach. A live podcast recording with David Haig and Catherine Ross took audiences through the remarkable story, and how it made it to the big screen, in detail. Thanks to IX and HistoryExtra for bringing the vision to life.”

Matt Elton, podcast editor for HistoryExtra, added: “It was great to work with David Haig and Catherine Ross, plus STUDIOCANAL and IX, to bring the history behind Pressure to life - and to record the HistoryExtra podcast in front of a live audience. We can’t wait for podcast listeners and YouTube viewers to experience it for themselves.”
