The Stack has acquired Runtime, a US-based technology publication and industry newsletter. Runtime founder and veteran technology editor Tom Krazit joins The Stack as editor-in-chief with immediate effect, operating out of Portland, Oregon.
According to the publisher key deal takeaways include:
- Runtime’s brand, archive, and subscriber base will fully merge into The Stack. Runtime will become The Stack's flagship email newsletter, covering the latest interviews, insight and intelligence from The Stack’s team.
- Expanded US Footprint: The acquisition immediately scales The Stack's influence across North American technology decision makers and adds a high five-figure subscriber base to its already substantial IT leader audience.
- Events and editorial: With Krazit at the helm, the joint newsroom will ramp up its original reporting and development of new content products, market analysis, and continue to build on its Stack Summit event series following a successful NYC event.
Ed Targett, co-founder of The Stack, said: "I’ve admired Tom’s journalism for a long time, at Runtime, and previously Protocol. His depth of industry experience and editorial authority are rare assets. I’m looking forward to building our newsroom around his leadership.”
Tom Krazit, editor-in-chief of The Stack, added: “The Stack is an editorially-led business with a fierce focus on independent journalism and a culture of going beyond vendor noise to focus on the technical realities impacting real buyers. Both Runtime and The Stack have always put the enterprise tech buyer at the center of our coverage, and I'm incredibly excited to continue that mission on a larger global canvas”.
As Editor-in-Chief, Tom Krazit assumes full responsibility for global newsroom growth, defining editorial priorities, and driving enterprise tech coverage, added the publisher. This structural shift allows co-founder Ed Targett to focus alongside co-founder Nishal Ratanji on strategic growth, including expanding its range of editorial and commercial products, such as its signature The Stack Summit event platform and community initiatives.
For commercial partners, the acquisition expands access to one of the most influential communities in enterprise technology, the publisher continued. The Stack's growing platform spans trusted editorial coverage, private executive events held under Chatham House Rule, multimedia storytelling campaigns, newsletter sponsorships and strategic GTM initiatives designed to help organisations build awareness, credibility and relationships with senior technology decision-makers globally.
