David Clegg: “The Olympic heroics of Eve Muirhead and her brilliant team have captivated the whole country.”

The colourful image showed the women’s curling team, led by Courier columnist Eve Muirhead, jumping for joy following their triumph over Japan in the early hours of Sunday.

Muirhead, who grew up in Perthshire, has been a fixture on The Courier’s sports pages since her youth. She has also written a weekly column since 2011, exploring various sporting topics.

As well as the front and back covers, the paper dedicated six pages to the story including an interview with Muirhead’s parents, Gordon and Lin, and a spread of family pictures of Eve through the years.

David Clegg, editor of The Courier, said: “The Olympic heroics of Eve Muirhead and her brilliant team have captivated the whole country.

“The Courier has been following Eve's career closely since she was at school and she has written a column for the newspaper for more than a decade.

“We wanted to make a commemorative edition of The Courier that would mark this amazing achievement and reflect that pride felt across Tayside.”

The Courier previously produced wraparound covers for Andy Murray’s first Wimbledon win in 2013 and the opening of V&A Dundee in 2018.
