Johnston Press appoints Senior Director of Brand and Product Marketing

Johnston Press plc has announced the appointment of Terry McGrath to the newly created role of Senior Director of Brand and Product Marketing.

Terry, who officially started yesterday, will be responsible for managing Johnston Press’s 200+ portfolio of brands including new proposition and product development, brand management and ongoing marketing. She will report in to Chief Marketing Officer, Lucy Sinclair.

Formerly Head of Marketing for BBC Online and Interim Director of North Brands for BBC North, Terry has extensive experience of establishing media brand portfolios across online and digital platforms. Most recently, she was responsible for developing and expanding the BBC’s digital portfolio, including BBC iPlayer and BBC iWonder, and in 2011 received the BBC M&A award for outstanding contribution.

Terry joins at an important time for Johnston Press and is the latest in a series of high profile appointments and promotions as the company bolsters its senior team. John Bills, previously President of Trinity Canada Inc., joined Johnston Press as Group Managing Director in August, and Steven Thomas has been officially promoted with immediate effect to Sales Director of The Scotsman Publications Ltd. (TSPL), and General Manager of Scotsman.com and entertainment website, WOW247.

Steven successfully launched and managed the purely digital WOW247 and will be tasked with fast tracking Johnston Press’ digital sales transformation. He will also provide strategic oversight for the Scotsman.com, working closely with Jeff Moriarty to help grow engagement and traffic.

Both Terry’s appointment and Steven’s promotion underline Johnston Press’ ongoing commitment to building its brands’ digital identity, says the company.

“Terry has an impeccable track record of impressive and pioneering digital initiatives and a notable ability to lead,” said Lucy Sinclair, Chief Marketing Officer.

“I know she will be an excellent asset to our team and am excited to see how our extensive portfolio of brands develops in her highly capable hands.”

Terry said: “I’m excited to be joining the talented team at Johnston Press at such a pivotal time for local news.

“The opportunity to draw on my digital expertise to even further strengthen Johnston Press’ offering is a huge privilege and I am looking forward to getting started.”
