Condé Nast Center of Fashion & Design to open in China

The Condé Nast Center of Fashion & Design will open in Shanghai later this year, with a mission to identify, cultivate, support and inspire future talents for the industry, it was announced yesterday by Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman and Chief Executive.

This follows the success of the Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design, which opened in London in April 2013. Since then over 400 international students have graduated, many into careers across the global fashion and luxury industries, and the Center in Shanghai will build on this success.

“Condé Nast is deeply committed to China and to meeting the needs of the market and our business partners in the fashion universe. It is natural to expand our activities in this direction,” commented Newhouse.

Liz Schimel, President of Condé Nast China, added, “The Center is a major piece of our overall expansion in China, leveraging our brand authority into new business areas.”

Dominique Simard, Executive Director of the Center remarked, “There is an expertise gap between the fashion industry’s needs and what many candidates can provide. Lack of applicable skills and knowledge together with practical industry exposure remains a crucial challenge for preparing graduates for the ever-demanding workforce. This is our focus as an executive fashion education provider in China.”

The Center will run a range of inaugural courses as follows:

Protégé Program: Advanced Fashion Design

Fashion Photography & Styling

Fashion Media & Digital Communication

Fashion Marketing & Branding

The Universe of Perfume in Collaboration with Takasago

Boost Your Luxury Business in China

Opening in the Autumn, the Center will be located on Mid Huaihai Road, at the heart of the fashion and luxury retail district in Shanghai. The Center will be equipped with cutting-edge digital and educational facilities, offering a benchmark learning environment, says Condé Nast. The Center will also operate as a multifunctional space, with opportunity to host fashion shows, conferences, exhibitions and other events.

Additional courses in the fields of visual merchandising, e-commerce, social media, retail and illustration will be launched at a later stage. There are full scholarship opportunities available for the Autumn intake.
