Economist Enterprise has announced the appointment of Greg Williams, former editor-in-chief of WIRED UK, to the newly created role of global head of technology and innovation thought leadership.
Greg Williams is an authority on technology trends and their impact on business and society, says the publisher. At WIRED, where he was most recently deputy global editorial director, Greg met the technologists, scientists, entrepreneurs, investors and policymakers making decisions and deploying capital. During that time, he interviewed global leaders such as Satya Nadella, Demis Hassabis, Bill Gates, Reid Hoffman, Tony Blair and Boris Johnson as well as the CEOs of LinkedIn, BMW, Pfizer and Orange. He has spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the UN AI for Good Summit, Web Summit, VivaTech, the Founders Forum, Cannes Lions and the World Governments Summit. He was the chair of judges of the 2026 Orwell Prize for Journalism.
Economist Enterprise is the business-to-business arm of The Economist Group, providing media solutions and intelligence services to businesses, government agencies and financial institutions to help them make better decisions, take confident action and demonstrate leadership on a global stage.
Greg will lead the editorial strategy and execution of Economist Enterprise's custom and subscription products on technology and innovation, developing perspectives on artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, biotechnology, the space economy, energy, advanced manufacturing and robotics, says the publisher. In this role, he will oversee Economist Enterprise's Tech Frontiers leadership initiative, which equips business leaders and policymakers with the clarity, connections and confidence needed to shape the future of AI for social and economic good.
Greg Williams said: “It is difficult to imagine a more consequential moment to explore how technology is reshaping organisations, economies, government and society – or a better place to do it. Economist Enterprise’s analytical rigour, global expertise and commitment to evidence-based insight make it an unparalleled platform for this work and I’m thrilled to be joining the team.”
Jonathan Birdwell, global head of thought leadership at Economist Enterprise said: "Greg joins us at a pivotal moment for our Tech Frontiers initiative. His expertise will sharpen how we track and explain the industry shifts driving change across business and policy; deepening the rigour we bring to our research and strengthening the editorial voice our audiences rely on to understand where artificial intelligence, and technology more broadly, is heading."
