Elsevier and CzechELib agree five-year OA publishing agreement for Czech institutions
William Reubens: “We are proud to establish our first agreement with CzechELib and to begin this partnership as a trusted partner to the Czech research community.”

Elsevier, a global scientific information and analytics company, has announced its first agreement with the CzechELib consortium – consortium led by National Library of Technology of the Czech Republic (NTK), representing Czech research institutions. The publisher says this five-year agreement enables eligible corresponding authors to publish open access in selected Elsevier hybrid journals without paying article publishing charges (APCs).

Marking a milestone, the publisher continued, the agreement establishes Elsevier and NTK as trusted partners in supporting the Czech Republic’s transition toward open science. "The agreement enables researchers to publish in high-quality journals while removing financial barriers associated with open access,” comments Petr Očko, director, National Library of Technology.

Through this new partnership, Elsevier says the agreement delivers the following benefits for participating institutions:

  • Open access publishing in selected hybrid journals for eligible corresponding authors, with APCs covered under the agreement
  • Support for broader dissemination of Czech research in high-quality journals
  • Streamlined publishing experience for researchers and institutions
  • A trusted, collaborative partnership supporting national open science priorities

Eligible authors must be affiliated with a participating CzechELib institution. Article publishing charges (APCs) are covered under the agreement.

William Reubens, regional vice president, research sales at Elsevier, said: “We are proud to establish our first agreement with CzechELib and to begin this partnership as a trusted partner to the Czech research community. This agreement provides researchers with a clear and supported route to publishing open access in leading journals, helping to increase the visibility and impact of their work while removing financial and administrative barriers.”

Jiří Jirát, head of the CzechELib National Centre, National Library of Technology, added: “This first agreement with Elsevier represents an important step forward for the Czech research community. By working together as trusted partners, we are enabling greater access to open access publishing and supporting researchers in sharing their work more widely on a global stage. During the first few months of the agreement, authors from all types of institutions have already shown great interest in publishing under it.”

As part of the collaboration, Elsevier and CzechELib say they will continue to engage with the Czech research community, including plans for a joint academic forum later this year. The forum is expected to provide an opportunity for researchers, librarians, and other stakeholders to share early experiences of the agreement and discuss open access publishing and research visibility.
