Newsworks says it took the best 12 campaigns from this year’s ad of the month polls, pitting four against each other on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to see which would be crowned ad of the year on Thursday.

Four days of voting came down to three fantastic ads on Thursday, each battling it out for the ultimate accolade of Newsworks ad of the year. Medialabs and Alzheimer’s Society joined two campaigns from OMD and Lidl in the final, but only one campaign could take the crown, added Newsworks.

Newsworks announced the winner as OMD and Lidl with their QRoissant from March. They congratulated both teams for the win, as well as Medialabs and Alzheimer’s Society for a very well-fought and deserved second place.

Commenting on the win, OMD’s Hannah Gething said: “We are so pleased that our QRoissant campaign has won the ad of the year! We chose news brands for this campaign as research from Metro showed that there had been a resurgence in QR code popularity since their use in restaurants during the pandemic. We also knew that an integrated ad format would allow great standout and drive responses.

“It’s also a great example of how Lidl continue to try new ideas and be bold with their advertising. It was a hugely successful and worthy of the win.”
