Springer Nature has launched Nature Books, a new imprint that gives authors the opportunity to publish long-form work under the scientific brand for the first time.

Harsh Jegadeesan: “As the world’s largest academic book publisher, we’re committed to offering publishing options that support author choice and help maximise the reach and impact of their work.”

Nature Books authors will benefit from a publishing experience that combines the research area expertise of in-house Nature Portfolio editors with Springer Nature's leadership in academic books, helping authors develop, strengthen and amplify their work, says the publisher.

Harsh Jegadeesan, chief publishing officer, Springer Nature commented: “Books are an important part of the research ecosystem because they allow authors to explore complex questions with a depth and context that other formats cannot always provide. As the world’s largest academic book publisher, we’re committed to offering publishing options that support author choice and help maximise the reach and impact of their work.

“Nature Books is a clear example of that commitment. Bringing together two of Springer Nature's greatest strengths: our global leaderships in academic books and the subject expertise of Nature Portfolio, it gives authors a powerful new way to develop and share long-form work."

Aimed at academics, policymakers and funders, the publisher says Nature Books will publish works that bring together expertise, evidence and insight on some of the most significant issues facing research and society today.

Nature Books forms part of Springer Nature's broader books portfolio, which supports researchers across disciplines, formats and career stages, the publisher continued. Complementing the publisher's Springer and Palgrave Macmillan brands, the new imprint enables authors to benefit from the guidance of a specialised editorial board of in-house Nature Portfolio editors, and to publish under the Nature brand.

The launch builds on Springer Nature's position as one of the world's largest academic book publishers, publishing approximately 14,500 books each year. The first titles will launch later this year.
