The New European weekly newspaper has launched their new website on Pugpig Site.

The New European launches on Pugpig Site

Pugpig worked closely with the team at The New European under the leadership of owner and founder Matt Kelly to migrate from their previous platform and deliver an improved digital experience for their readers.

The The New European launched in 2016 in response to the UK’s referendum on EU membership. It has grown and evolved rapidly since then. For the whole story on the launch of The New European from Matt himself is featured in Pugpig’s Out of Office podcast, Episode 9. Matt discusses his time as a regional news journalist and the founding of The New European. (In Episode 10, the second part in that conversation, Matt chats about how he secured the investment to buy his creation from Archant and how he’s now building the business pretty much from scratch.)

The project to create new digital products for the newspaper kicked off in March 2021. Pugpig and The New European worked together to create a minimal viable product (MVP) and get it out quickly to then build on it going forward. The design is super slick and clean, says Pugpig, on brand for their journalism as well as being a refresh for The New European as a standalone company.

Every single archive edition of the newspaper is featured here via the Pugpig PDF importer and web reader. Editions created in the Pugpig CMS as HTML editions are also featured, so there is a mix of both reading experiences. The access, entitlement and subscription infrastructure for the media brand features the Pugpig/Piano integration.
